Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1759
Ink seller
Sandby's drawing of an ink seller was meant to be turned into a print for a further series of 'London Cries'. However, despite making numerous studies, such as this one, he never published more than the first series of twelve.
The seller has several bottles of ink in a basket on his backet and a smaller bottle and a funnel hangs from his belt.
The verse written at the bottom reads: 'Ink, ink, come buy my fine ink, for money that I want to buy me some drink'.
