Specimens from 'John Deane's Cabinet of Submarine Recoveries, Relics and Antiquities from the bed of the sea and various wrecks'. Including an antique cannon from the Mary Rose. Brothers Charles and John Deane are credited with designing the first working diving helmet in 1828. They carried out salvage work on the wreck of the 'Intrinsic', becoming famous underwater engineers, and later organized the production of diving suits for commercial sale, thus beginning the wide scale use of diving suits in the pearling industry.
