Harrow
Harrow borough is located in the outer north-west of London. It’s known for suburbs like Stanmore, Pinner and Wealdstone – as well the historic boys school which bears its name.
For a glimpse of Harrow’s rural past, Headstone Manor House contains work dating from the 14th century, also when its moat was built. Nearby, Kodak established a factory in 1891 to produce film and develop and print photographs. Having employed around 6,000 people at its height, it closed in 2017.
St Mary’s Church in Harrow on the Hill is the borough’s oldest building, with parts dating back to the 12th century.
Buried in the church grounds is John Lyon, who founded Harrow School in 1572. Among its former pupils are the poet Byron, the actor Benedict Cumberbatch and seven UK prime ministers, including Winston Churchill.
