Meet the dockers

Meet Bert and Eliza Trott, an East End husband and wife duo. Listen to their stories of life on the London Victorian docks and hear how Eliza’s involvement in the 1888 match girls' strike inspired Bert to back the 1889 dockers' strike.

Meet Brunel

Meet Isambard Kingdom Brunel and find out how he built the first tunnel under a river in the world, right here in London. Find out about his life and times in Victorian England, and how he cheated death three times.

Perhaps you'll even find yourselves recreating the building of the tunnel, and making sure it's watertight.

Object handling

Schools taking part in gallery activities including object handling, drama with actors and craft.

Enhance your school group’s visit with interactive object handling led by our Learning team. Pupils will have the chance to investigate real historical objects, ask questions and uncover their stories.

Our team will also deliver brief welcome talks, which offer an introduction to the museum, its key highlights and wayfinding tips – helping your group get the most out of their visit.

Available every weekday between Monday 23 June – Friday 18 July. Galleries and timings to be confirmed, so watch this space.
