Letter
On the front page is the printed job description of "John A. L. Barnard, Accountant and Agent", with details of his responsibilities. On the inside are two handwritten letters. The first is from Richard Ridgeway, writing to his employer, and stating that he wishes to retire in the following April, after his 70th birthday. He introduces John A. L. Barnard as his proposed successor. Beneath this letter is a letter from John A. L. Barnard to Richard Ridgeway's employer, expressing his interest in working for the company. The first letter is dated 31st December 1856, and the second is dated 1st January 1857.
