Printed Ephemera — 1851-1875
Card, valentine card
Part of a sheet extracted from a volume of Jonathan King's valentine card collection. Applied to the sheet are three embossed, handcoloured, cut out paper decorations, two embossed with an image of a shepherdess and a farmer seated on a bench and one embossed with an image of cupid flying above a cloud. These images would be used as decoration on a valentine's card. Beside these images is an imcomplete sample valentine's card comprising a sheet of white lace paper embossed with a floral border design surrounding a central roundel. Above the roundel is a cameo embossed, handcoloured image of a flying cupid shooting an area. Handwritten on the roundel are the partly illegible instructions '...colour the wreath'.
