Pye Powder Court, Cloth Fair, West Smithfield
Pye Powder Court, Cloth Fair. The Cloth Fair was held annually until 1855. The caption tells that the Pye Powder Court was held in the Hand and Shears public house (shown in a vignette) and causes between "histrionic complainants" were determined. The amin engraving shows 13 people in a large room: the judge at his bench with a secretary, three attendants with staffs, a lady and a gentleman (probably the parties to the case) a child, etc.
