A view of the Seat of the late David Garrick at Hampton
'A view of the Seat of the late David Garrick at Hampton, with prospect of temple of Shakespeare in garden' seen from the river. Hampton House (later Garrick's Villa), Hampton Court Road, Middlesex was aquired by Garrick in 1754. Robert Adams made alterations, including pillars, Garrick built an orangery in the grounds and a Temple to Shakespeare on the river side, reached by a tunnel under the road. On Garrick's death in 1779, his widow Eva remained there until her death in 1822.
