View over a frost fair on the Thames on 1684, labelling the activities taking place on the ice - an ox roasting, football playing, stilt walking, horse-drawn boat, nine pin playing, a printing booth, etc. With Essex Buildings and The Temple in the background.
This etching was probably made in the nineteent century (compare with 80.394 and A23098a) but is based on an engraving of 1685: See British Library, Shelfmark: Ktop XXVII, Item number: number 38-2, A Wonderful Fair or a Fair of Wonders. A new and true illustration of and Description of the Several things Acted and Done on the River of Thames, in the time of the terrible frost, December 1684.
