Signora Josephine Giraldelli - the original Salamander
This print of Signora Josephine Giraldelli calls her 'the original Salamander'. She made her name in the 19th century through her amazing feats with fire. As well as fire-eating, she would stand barefoot on a red hot iron plate, then touch the plate against her hair and tongue. She washed her hands in boiling oil and placed melted lead in her mouth. After a few minutes, she would remove the lead, which had solidified, and was marked with the impression of her teeth.
