Elevation of the New Theatre in Well Street, Wellclose Square
The Royalty Theatre in Well Street, Wellclose Square, opened in 1787 without a licence and was immediately closed. It operated with burlesque and pantomime (renamed East London) until 1826 when it burnt down. Rebuilt, it reopened as the Royal Brunswick Theatre in 1828 but collapsed after three days, killing 15 people.
