Jew's Hospital, Mile End Road, Whitechapel
A group of Spanish and Portuguese Jews donated funds to build the Jews' Hospital on Mile End Road in 1807. The hospital had two departments, one to care for the old, and the other to teach children useful trades like furniture making or knitting. When the children completed their training, they entered into apprenticeships or domestic service.
