Humphries & Mendoza, their third public contest for Superiority, on Septr. 29; 1790
Daniel Mendoza was defeated in his first boxing match with opponent Richard Humphries. However, Mendoza emerged victorious from their next two encounters. Mendoza was born and brought up in the Portuguese Jewish community in London, and established himself as a prize fighter. In 1787 he set up a school of boxing and later published a book entitled 'The Art of Boxing'.
