Robert Lowth (1710-1787), Bishop of London 1778-87, seen in a medallion with coat of arms etc. Author of the highly prescriptive 'A Short Introduction to English Grammar' (1762) which originated the bans on split infinitives and prepositions at the end of sentences. Engraved for 'The New Christian's Magazine'.
