Matthew Duane, coin collector, aniquary & conveyancer, 1707-1785, with a tribute. The original was made from life in 1774.
Text under the title reads: 'He was of great eminence in the knowledge of law, and of the strictest integrity and liberality in the practice of it. At the same time the friend and patron of the polite and fine arts, and particularly distinguished by his singular skill, judgement, and taste in collecting of Syrian, Phoenician, Grecian, Roman and other coins, now deposited in the Museum of the late William Hunder, M.D. He was fellow of the Royal and Antiquarian societies, and a trustee of the British Museum'.
