Fashion — C. 1795-1809
His Royal Highness Frederick Duke of York
Frederick, Duke of York was appointed Commander in Chief of the British Army in 1795, serving in that role until 1809. This handkerchief probably dates from the period c.1799, when an Anglo-Russian army under the Duke's command invaded Holland. It would have been sold as a patriotic souvenir
