The Storming of the Bastille
Sheet illustrated with coloured scenes of storming of the Bastille. Child's handwriting practice sheet decorated with scenes from the French Revolution, 1815. Popular images of the Revolution were widely circulated. Londoners were probably most familiar with the prints of the French Revolution by the caricaturist James Gillray (1757-1815). Radicals in London celebrated the taking of the Bastille and the freeing of political prisoners. However, opinion was divided when it came to the Terror and especially the use of the guillotine.
