The Encampment in the Museum Garden
The army encampment in the British Museum Gardens after the Gordon Riots in 1780. The museum was then housed in Montagu House, which was demolished in 1840 in favour of the present facade. The encampment is to the north of the house - roughly on the site of the Great Court. There are many children and other visitors. The line of the future Gower Street is marked by a band of trees. Same as A18085.
