Youthful Sports Harmless Amusements
This handkerchief represents the types of games which were considered suitable for children and young people. The children, who are dressed in upper-class clothing of the late eighteenth century, are depicted playing at a variety of activities, including skating and kite-flying. The message of this handkerchief is in keeping with the increasingly moral tone of print culture in the 1780s and 90s.
