Whist with the rules and laws of the game
This handkerchief shows a group of people playing whist. Whist was a fashionable card came, popularised in the 1720s. It was considered a respectable and intellectual game. The rules of the game are printed around the edge of the handkerchief and it may have been used by someone who was learning how to play.
