Western Exchange, Old Bond Street.
In the first half of the 19th century, Bond Street was a fashionable shopping area for men, noted for its tailors, jewellers, hatters and perfumers. The Western Exchange possibly differed from other bazaars in catering more for a male rather than a female clientele. A London guidebook suggested that bazaars 'ought to be patronized' as they were well conducted 'modern establishments' and every article sold had 'the lowest price affixed to it.'
