Tallis's London street views : No. 85. Soho Square
Issue number 85 of Tallis's 'London street views' showing nos. 1-37 Soho Square. One of the featured premises in this issue is J. Green "Inventor of the Transponicon or Transposing P.F.". According to Blackwood's Lady's Magazine for 1837, the transponicon was a musical instrument "in the shape, and answering all the purposes of a cottage pianoforte. Its powers of transposing any musical composition in one moment at the pleasure of the performer - as it appears to us, seems to threaten nothing less than a complete revolution in musical notation for key'd instruments".
