Glove
One piece gauntlet glove of lamb or sheepskin (?) dressed with flesh-side out. Cut with flare below wrist on outer (little finger) side, which is left open for last 16 cm. Finger seams continued for 5.5 cm down back as decorative feature. Gauntlet, backed with thick paper, would originally have been lined with black silk and edges trimmed with braid, fringe or lace. Gauntlet decorated along lower edge with deep border (3.5 cm) containing leaf sprays, stylised flower heads and strapwork. Above borders interlaced leafy lines form heart-shaped compartments of two different sizes extending to wrists. Within compartments floral sprigs and larger sprays. Borders and larger compartments filled with applied black silk and design worked across silk and leather in silver thread and purl in laid and couched work, partially padded. Ground scattered with small spangles. Similarly decorated pair of gauntlet gloves with applied pieces of purple silk is in V&A Museum (T.82 & A-1909)
