Shoe, clog
Suede leather, wooden-soled, woman's shoes, 1944. This pair of side-lacing rust coloured suede shoes trimmed with green leather piping has wooden soles. Wooden soles were introduced during the Second World War to save leather, but they had to be protected by leather or rubber studding. They remained unpopular until the coupon value was reduced to two. These shoes were purchased at the end of the war from Lilley & Skinner for £1 18s 9d.
