Le Blon was a painter of Huguenot descent who attempted to develop a new weaving technique for making tapestries. He set up a factory in Chelsea to produce coloured tapestries in around 1733. He created this picture of the head of Christ using a method he patented in 1727. However, he abandoned the process when it proved unprofitable and moved to Paris. Many Huguenots did achieve success in the weaving industry.
