Cap, baby cap
Baby's cap said to have belonged to Charles I in infancy. The style does not support this, see below.
Register note: Before his execution Charles I gave these relics to Lord Lindsey and they have been preserved for 10 generations in the family, and passed on the death of the late Dowager Countess of Lindsey to her nephew Reginald Livesey.
LM Catalogue 1935, p 168: "Formerly in the possession of the Lindsey family, and traditionally supposed to have been given to the Second Earl of Lindsey by Charles I, before his execution. The Lindseys were famous Royalists. The First Earl died of wounds received at the battle of Edgehill. Montague, Second Earl of Lindsey, was one of the four peers who offered themselves as hostages to die in place of Charles I. After the King's execution, the Earl assisted to carry the body to its burial at Windsor."
