Stocking
One of a pair of black silk stockings, worn in Suffragette processions by Mrs Lilian Burslem. The stockings are hand embroidered with the 'Votes for Women' slogan and miniature flags in the purple, white and green colours of the militant Women's Social and Political Union (W.S.P.U.). The W.S.P.U. encouraged members to wear purple, white and green at all times, particularly when attending large demonstrations.
