Pair of brioche lace cuffs with a shallow and deep border design incorporating leaves and carnations on a dense net ground; handmade French bobbin lace. Catalogue note by Santina Levey: Valenciennes bobbin lace. Straight lace in cloth and half stitches. Grounded with a peacock's eye mesh. The lace is patterned with feathery leaves and flower heads that blur into the ground. Both pieces have been skillfully put together from a narrow edging and a wider border. They have been turned into cuffs with the addition of new picot edgings in the late C19 or early C20. Condition: good.
