Trousers
During the 1960s young men started to experiment with fashion introducing different colours and shapes. These burgundy trousers are cut very low on the hip and feature a prominent zip with a large ring pull.
This sartorial development was often called the 'peacock revolution'. On 23 September 1969, The Times newspaper reported that this was not confined to London:
'The British male, we are told, is as proud as a peacock about his clothes - and as colourful as one. He has turned his well-clad back on drabness, and is every bit as fussy as his wife or girl friend about his dress. Shapeless, non-descript garments are no longer for him. [...]
The fact remains, though, that miles away from Chelsea and he West End, many men find the purchase of colourful clothes to be the most pleasurable way of spending their spare cash. The shires, the hamlets, and the large boroughs, are in revolt against colourless conformity. They have raised their standards in support of the Peacock Revolution.'
