Waistcoat
A man's waistcoat, fronts of off-white (ivory) satin, embroidered with polychrome silks, the main body with an all over design of stylised springs, and a border of spots and stripes at pockets and closing edges, with ebullient floral trails. Small stand collar; ten buttonholes, the top three closed in later alterations. Back in three pieces of natural linen with two sets of linen tie tapes. Waist level flap pockets and straight hem which cuts across the full design. The original pointed hem has been turned up inside the lining and sewn across when the straight hem came into fashion in the early 19thc. The collar of black corded silk outside and black velvet inside has also been added at a later date. Condition: good, but entered the museum in a dirty condition.
