The Hackney Coachman or, the way to get a good Fare
Small 6 page chapbook entitled 'The Hackney Coachman or, the way to get a good Fare' written by Hannah More. The chapbook was part of the 'Cheap Repository Tract' series published by John Marshall and sold for a halfpenny. On the front cover is an engraving depicting a young woman standing in the street, hailing a Hackney coach. Written in the first person the chapbook describes in verse the life of a respectable Hackney coachman who avoids riotous London crowds and alcohol and whose wife keeps a sausage shop in all Broad St Giles.
At the back of the chapbook is printed a list of other publications issued in 1795-1796 as part of the 'Cheap Repository Tract' series. The cover notes that this publication could be purchased at John Marshall, R White in Piccadilly, S.Hazard at Bath and from 'all booksellers, newsmen, and hawkers in town and country.'
