Jacket, work uniform jacket
The Port of London began its duties on 31 March 1909. These were primarily to maintain the port's accommodation, equipment and services over 96 miles of the tidal Thames. Navigational services for ships using the port include maintaining shipping channels, moorings, lights and buoys.
This tunic, made from black wool and edged with black and red braid, was worn by a Port of London Authority messenger boy. Its Bakelite buttons bear a raised Port of London Authority crest.
