Coat, lounge jacket
This jacket is part of a three-piece man's Utility suit made of pinstriped black worsted, which was bought at the end of the Second World War from M Hyam Wholesale Clothing Company Limited, based in Emerson Street, Southwark. The suit is made according to the Civilian Clothing (Restriction) Orders, inside a ‘CC41’ printed label is stitched to the lining. The jacket is single-breasted, has a maximum of three pockets and three buttons, and no slits or buttons on the cuffs. The retail price would have been 3 8s 3d (3 pounds, 8 shillings and threepence), and 26 coupons would have to be surrendered to purchase the whole suit.
