Cloak, robe
Long formal robe of the Order of the Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George. Robe is made of dull blue silk satin lined with red silk faille and consists of two flared sections, seamed down centre back, gathered to standing collar and cut to form train. Completely open down right front below elbow level. Neckband seam open at each side of front neck, white satin ribbon knot on each shoulder with a gold cord knot on left shoulder. Metal embroidered star of the Order of St Michael and St George on left front surrounding a centre painted disc with St Michael and the dragon surrounded by the embroidered inscription: "AUSPICIUM MELIORES AEVI". Silk loop inside centre back hem to aid in wearing. Label inside neck: 'Ede & Ravenscroft founded 1688/Robe Makers/Court Tailors/By Appointments to the King, the Queen and the Prince of Wales/93 & 94 Chancery Lane,/W.C.2.'. Inscribed 'Rt. Hon Sir J. Rennell Rodd'.
