Fashion — 1813-1817, robings and cuffs 1760-1765
Dress
Fawn silk dress with robings and sleeve cuffs of the 1760s; 'V' neck, loose full crossover fronts over fitting crossover linen and cotton lining flaps. Bodice back in five shaped sections. Short (altered) sleeves in one section. Skirt in five widths pleated to waist; falling front with tape ties. Condition: much altered; brocade and braid trimming added at neck and sleeves.
Catalogue note by Natalie Rothstein. Buff coloured taffeta said to have belonged to Princess Charlotte. The front has robings and the sleeve cuffs made from the trimmings of a dress of the 1760s. This is a satin with graduated stripes in the warp and a sprig made by a pattern weft woven 'in changes' i.e. one weft but the colour is changed as required by the design. The fly braid matches.
