Fashion — 1972-1973
Blouse
Rayon became popular in the 1920s as a cheaper subsitute to silk. Rayon is a manufactured fibre, but is produced from cellulose, a naturally occuring material. It quickly became known as 'artificial silk', and by the mid twentieth century its use was widespread. Biba concentrated on affordable clothing for Britain's youth, with fabrics such as rayon allowing the company to produce fashionable designs at lower prices.
