Prisoner's mattrass [sic], Wandsworth
Book illustration of a prisoner's mattress, from page 507 of 'The criminal prisons of London and scenes of prison life' by Henry Mayhew and John Binny. In Wandsworth the matresses were rolled up during the day "like a lady's muff" and stored on one of three small shelves in a corner beside the cell door.
