The 'Warrior' hulk with the 'Sulphur' washing-ship in the distance
An illustration from 'The criminal prisons of London and scenes of prison life' by Henry Mayhew and John Binny, showing the prison ship 'Warrior' in the foreground, and the washing ship 'Sulphur' in the distance. The 'Sulphur' was an old sloop of war, a "little, low, dingy ship" which served as a floating wash-tub to the other Woolwich prison hulks. There were fifteen convicts on board, including three washermen, one blacksmith, and two stocking-menders.
