Port & River — 1835
Bill of lading
A Bill of Lading issued by the Banff & London Shipping company in November 1835, registering the receipt of a cargo of coffee, sugar corks, molasses, tea, hops, soap and porter, for delivery to London. The 'Penny Cyclopedia of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge' for 1825 records that the company had just three sailing smacks 'with excellent accommodation for passengers' and that they sailed regularly between Banff and London. Pigot's Directory for 1835 states that the vessels sailed weekly for London.
