Port & River — 1939-1945
Railway wagon labels
A Second World War railway wagon label with a green vertical band. Paper labels were used to denote railway wagons carrying military consignments during the Second World War. A large amount of munitions and other military equipment was handled in the London docks and transported using the dock railways. The labels are usually printed with a coloured vertical or diagonal bar, presumably to denote similar cargoes or destinations.
