Children resting at the Elm Court Day School for Delicate Children
Children resting in their beds after lunch at the Elm Court Day Centre for Delicate Children in Lambeth. A pioneering scheme in the 1950s established open air schools for ‘delicate children’ across the country. Children who suffered from conditions such as bronchitis, rheumatism and tuberculosis were educated in schools which promoted rest, nourishing food, regular exercise as well as plenty of ‘fresh air’.
