Kitchen at the Ricardo Street Primary School, Lansbury Street
The Susan Lawrence Primary School and the Elizabeth Lansbury Nursery School in Poplar were initially referred to as the Ricardo Street Schools. They were built as part of the Live Architecture Exhibition in the Festival of Britain after the original school on the site suffered a direct hit from a bomb in the Second World War. The school was officially opened on 26th April 1951 by Gerald Barry, the Director-General of the Festival.
