The poor man's guardian, No. 6
Issue number 6 of 'The Poor Man's Guardian' for Saturday 11 December 1847. The image on the title page is of a soup kitchen in Leicester Square opened by Charles Cochrane, chairman of the Poor Man's Guardian Society, on 19th January 1847 to relieve the poor over a period of very cold weather. The soup kitchen remained open until 20th February, having provided food to nearly 300 people a day. The kitchen opened again from 11th March to 24th April but was then closed due to lack of funds.
