Handkerchief, fichu fragment

Fragment of embroidered muslin, probably part of a fichu, late 18th century. White cotton muslin embroidered in white cotton with design of herringbone leaf and bud in undulating line along inside edge with a wider band of floral design inset in from this. Openwork used in the latter design as well as along intact edge in the form of a double row of plain holes (drawn-thread work). The intact kerchief was probably made up from an already embroidered length of fabric. Condition: torn and weak in places.
Alteration Notes: is the fragmentary status of the object the result of degradation over time or deliberate cutting?
