Dress, evening dress
Silver lamé evening dress decorated with imitation paste gems.
During the first two decades of the twentieth century, Russia exerted a strong influence of fashion in the West. The exotic sets and costumes of the Ballets Russes, the late nineteenth-century Slav revival, and the 1917 Russian Revolution all contributed to an interest in all things Russian. Peasant blouses and gowns, 'Russian' side-buttoning Boyar blouses, coats and dresses weighted with bands of fur and embellished with embroidery filled the fashion pages.
Wide neck, no sleeves. Bodice front and back each in one straight section. Centre front opening fastening with tie. Skirt in one straight section, gathered to waist, left side open. Lavishly decorated with gilt beads and artificial jewels, gilt bead fringe at hem. Matching straight petticoat, with shoulder straps.
