Dress, evening dress
'An evening dress in black silk chiffon, made by Pilgrim and Claridge, 5 Hanover Street, London W1. It has a matching slip in black silk crepe-de-chine with a picot-edged, zig-zag hem. All the petal shapes on the dress are made of black silk chiffon cut in triangular shapes, seamed, turned through and picot-edged at the top. The picot-edged handkerchief points give an uneven hemline. This was one of the ways in which the short skirts of 1926-7 were gradually lengthened. There is no placket in this dress. The bust would have been flattened with a bandeau, and the hips suppressed with an elastic girdle.' - Janet Arnold, Patterns of Fashion 2, pp. 76.
