From the series 'The Distance Between Us'. McDonnell says 'The photographs of mine that arrest me most are those in which the figures passing through the frame beg me to wonder what's on their minds: the mundane, the epic, the hope, the fear'. Based in London, McDonnell has practised street photography for over 20 years working exclusively in black and white. His aim is to portray the individual within the city by creating dramatic contrast in his photographs.
