Fashion — 1905-1907
Underskirt
Part of the stock of the wholesale lingerie manufacturing firm of 'George Dawson'. The firm was established in the 1890s and moved from 9 Fell Street, around 1907 to 23 London Wall in the 1920s. It had an additional factory in Leyton. Leyton was chosen because of the large labour force available, due to the wives of men who were working for the London and North East Railway. Altogether the firm employed about 300 women, 10 male cutters, and 12 male travelling salesmen. The samples were donated by Mr.W.G.Eborn, the last owner of the company.
