Plate wasters
Stack of six tin-glazed earthenware plates, which have fused together during firing. There are trivets (used to separate and support the ware during firing) which are stuck firmly in between each plate. The kiln had over-heated with disastrous results. The plates are decorated with hand-painted blue designs over a white background. Excavated from the remains of the Rotherhithe pothouse, Lambeth. Reference: Tyler. K, Betts, I. & Stephenson, R. (2008): London's Delftware Industry, MoLAS Monograph 10, pg. 67, fig. 88).
