Mr and Mrs Kenlock, Brixton

Mr. Clement Kenlock and Mrs. Lucy Kenlock, are pictured standing side by side in a park in Brixton, near to some residential houses seen in the distance. Dressed in smart clothes, they look directly towards the photographer.

Neil Kenlock was 19 years old when he took this photograph of his relatives. Born in Port Antonio in Jamaica, Kenlock lived with his grandmother until 1963 when he came to Brixton to join his parents, who he barely knew. He began to use a camera while at school in Brixton and later set up as a freelance photographer.

During the 1970s, Kenlock worked as a staff photographer for 'Westindian World' and co-founded 'Root' magazine. He later co-founded 'Choice FM', London's first legal radio station devoted to black urban music.
